We have framed everything! From Guitars to pillowcases to original photographic slides from the early 1900’s, if you want to protect and display something, we can make it happen.

Can I use a frame I have already?
Yes! We can do a lot to make an old frame look fresh and beautiful. You can replace just your matting to give a new look to your art, or if it has slipped in the mat, we can fix that as well.
If you have a piece that means a lot to you, it’s probably wise to bring it into the shop for an evaluation. Pictures framed without conservation materials will eventually begin to turn yellow, or fade as the acid from the materials used and the UV light start degrading your art.

Can I bring you my art if it’s already framed?
Yes! We offer repair services, as well as full custom framing. In addition, if you decide you want to reframe your piece, we would be more than happy to remove it from its existing frame at no charge.

Should I try and match my room/ other frames?
You should always take into consideration what will be surrounding your new framed art, however, your first priority should be to frame your individual piece to its very best. Using neutrals will help tie your new art in to the rest of your décor, but in all likelihood, your art will outlast your sofa, so it’s best to frame it in a way you will always be satisfied with.
Matching your other frames exactly is not necessary, it usually creates a more interesting look to use frames that are unique but “go” together. Framing pieces this way also makes a point that each piece is special in its own right, and not just as part of the grouping or room.

Preservation framing (or conservation framing) is framing where we surround your artwork in a completely acid free environment. We use the highest quality mats, mounting boards and techniques to shield your valuable and sentimental artwork from the effects of acid degradation and harmful UV light. Our preservation framing allows you to remove the artwork from the frame at a much later date, unharmed and unaltered. This will preserve the value of your artwork for years to come.
In addition to preservation framing, we offer museum framing, which is the highest form of protective framing available.
Ultraviolet light is one of the greatest sources of damage to artwork. The natural ultraviolet protection afforded by regular glass types, can only shield your artwork from some of the damaging effects of ultraviolet. Unfortunately, the upper end of the ultraviolet spectrum of light is the most hazardous to your art. To aid in the protection of your art, we carry a full line of UV reflective glass. From a “regular” finish to a top of the line Anti Reflective (or Museum) finish, chose a conservation glass and you can be sure that your framed piece will last for years to come.

A mat board allows space from the frame, so your eye can lead into the art. It also acts as a spacer, separating the art from the glass. A mat can accentuate, subdue, or focus on colors in your art so they can better suit your home. It can also help you adjust the size of your artwork, cover damage, crop out writing, or allow you to put more than one picture or object in a frame. We have many different styles and textures of mat boards to choose from, so you are sure to find the exact right combination to enhance your art.

What is a dry mount and why do I need one?
Dry mounting is a process that permanently adheres your artwork to foam board or mat board, so that it will always stay flat; otherwise in time it will ripple or crease. We usually recommend dry mounting for posters and some photographs. You can also dry mount some canvas’, as long as you are putting it into a frame and the paint is not too thick.

Glass acts as another form of protection and can help preserve your art for many years. We offer a variety of glass options to suit your art and its specific needs. If your art is in a high traffic area, or is very valuable, you may want to consider using acrylic, as it is more resistant to breaking and damaging your art in the process.

What kinds of Glass are available?
We offer three different finishes of glass, each with or without UV protection.
- Regular finish glass is your standard glass and has a reflection in bright light.
- Non Glare glass is acid washed on the surface to give it a “frosted” appearance. Non Glare is best if it is directly touching your art (no matting or spacers) the further it gets from the surface of your art, the more details you lose.
- AR or Museum glass is the top of the line glass. It is almost invisible and offers the highest levels of UV protection, even in the base glass.
All of the above finishes are also available in acrylic.

What is the Difference between Conservation Glass and Regular glass?
Conservation or UV glass has an invisible protective film on the inside of the glass (except in the case of AR/ Museum, where it is built in). The film filters the UV light from fading your art. It will extend the life of your framed piece by 20 years or more. It’s like sunscreen for your art!

A frame will add sophistication and presence to your art. It will protect the edges and seal it from any outside damaging forces, like bugs and dust. If your art happens to fall off the wall, a frame will take most of the impact and protect your art from the worst of the damage.
While there are ways you can display your art without a frame, if it has any value (monetary or sentimental) we highly recommend the superior protection of a wood or even metal frame.

We will take care of your project from start to finish! All you need to do decide which design is your favorite and we will take it from there. (We even offer pick up, delivery, and hanging services, if your schedule is as busy as most of us!)

Why is the back of the frame sealed?
Sealing the back of the frame serves two functions. First, it provides a clean look for the back of your frame. Second, it provides protection from insects and dust.
There are two methods of sealing the back of the frame. The most common method is using craft paper. It is attached to the frame using a double sided tape. This is the method we use, and we believe it creates a more professional appearance for the back of your art, as well as adding another layer of protection.
The second method is taping, which is predominately used in Europe. This method uses a two inch wide tape to cover over the attachments, usually staples or framer’s points. While this method functions well, it allows the viewer to see the backing board and can release over time.
Metal frames, because of their channel construction, are usually not backed, and are more vulnerable to the before mentioned problems.

Jerseys are sewn onto a matboard in the desired position. This preserves the value, as the jersey can be removed at a later time with no damage from the framing. We use all acid free matboards and strongly recommend UV glass, especially if your jersey is signed, as the signature is usually the first to fade.
There are many different ways to design the frame for a jersey. We have many examples on our product page, and can add a custom logo cut out or debossed onto your mat. Stop by the shop and let us design something perfect for your jersey!

Can you stretch my canvas or needlework?
We are experts in handling needlework and canvas. We have framed many different pieces of each and have years of experience in handling the special needs of your art.
Needlework is stretched over an acid free board and then attached in a totally reversible way, to hold it straight and keep it in place. We abide by the rule of Do No Harm! We respect the fact that your needlework may have taken you years of work, and we take every precaution to ensure it lasts for decades in its original condition.
Canvas’ are stretched on wooden stretcher bars or mounted on a board, according to the specifications of the canvas and your preference. Paintings that are very thick are always stretched, as a board mount reduces air flow and invites the opportunity for disintegration to the canvas itself.

You should view your canvas like any other piece of art. While it is true you usually don’t put glass over a canvas, a frame still adds a level of protection.
A frame will also display your art in its best possible way. It will draw your attention to the canvas when you enter the room. A good frame will enhance your art, never detract.
There are many different frames that work well for canvas, and if you are concerned because the image goes all the way around the edges, we can make the canvas look as though it is floating within the frame, so it can be enhanced and protected without losing any of the image or impression the artist was trying to convey.

How much does it cost to frame my picture?
It is important for us to know certain things about the artwork before we quote an estimate. The dimensions of your art, and the frame you select are the most indicative of price. Matting, glass preference, object mounting, canvas stretching, dry mounting will also be variable costs to consider. We are happy to work with your budget to help you get the best for your artwork. Feel free to stop by the shop and have us create a design for you at no obligation.
